Why FOOD?

We believe that access to affordable and nutritious food is a human right and that food has the power to connect people, societies and cultures for the betterment of all. We believe that Access to good Food has the power to improve health outcomes, increase happiness and improve our economy.

The food system in the united states is fundamentally broken and our local, state and federal food policies are not working to ensure access to good food for all Americans.

WHY Advocacy?

After several years of funding primarily direct-service organizations, we saw an opportunity to have greater impact by focusing on policy advocacy. While determining the outcomes of advocacy work is more difficult and the timelines can be much longer, it is a critical element to improving our food system and often underfunded and overlooked. For a small organization with a limited budget and a high tolerance for risk, advocacy funding was the right fit.

Partnerships

As a small fund with no staff, we rely heavily on partnerships to further our work. We partner with our grantees to better leverage our grants and gain a deeper understanding of their work and the larger food system. We also rely on our strategic philanthropic consultants from Arabella Advisors to help us set our strategy and evaluate our effectiveness. Fidelity Charitable supplies the administrative functions of our work and provides additional strategic guidance.
